Blue Shell Hat

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...h_100_7395.jpg

Blue Shell Hat
by Michelle Bogart
name by TJ Bogart

MATERIALS: One skein Pale Blue Bernat Softee Baby
one cylinder matching light blue size 10 crochet thread
"D and F" hooks
yarn needle

SIZE: 6 mo and above to head circumference 18"

Important Note: I crochet VERY tightly, you may need to go up a hook size for the yarn. The thread should stay the same hook size no matter what, its supposed to look lacy.

Hat

Start with a magic ring, using the "F" hook and blue YARN, ch-3, 11 dc's in ring (12 dc) [If you don't know how to do a magic ring yet then ch 4, join with sl st, ch 3, 11 dc's in ring]

R1: Ch-3, dc in same st, (2 dc's in each dc) around, join. (24)

R2: Ch-3, turn, dc in next dc, (2 dc's in next dc, 1 dc in the next) around, join. (36) RS

R3: Ch-3, turn, dc in next two dc's, (2 dc's in the next dc, 1 dc in the next two dc's) around, join. (48)

R4: Ch-3, turn, dc in the next three dc's, (2 dc's in the next dc, 1 dc in the next three dc's) around, join. (60)

R5: Ch-3, turn, dc in the next four dc's, (2 dc's in the next dc, 1 dc in the next five dc's) around, join. (72)

R6: Ch-3, turn, dc in the next five dc's, (2 dc's in the next dc, 1 dc in the next six dc's) around, join. (84)

R7-14: Ch-3, turn, dc around, join.

R15: Ch-3, DO NOT TURN, dc around, join.

Work Round 16 in the front loops only

R16: Ch-3, DO NOT TURN, [dc, ch-2, 2 dc's in same st as ch-3 (first shell made)], (sk next dc, dc in the next, sk next dc, shell in the next dc) around, join.

R17: Ch-3, turn, shell in ch-2 space, (sk next dc, dc in the next 2 dc's, shell in ch-2 space) around, join.

R18: Ch-3, turn, dc in the next st, shell in ch-2 space, (sk next dc, dc in next 3 dc's, shell in ch-2 space) around, end w/ shell, sk next dc, dc in last two st, join.

Fasten off blue yarn and weave in ends.

Trim

Using "D" hook and THREAD, sl st in any shell.

Ch-3, 8 dc's in ch-2 space (sk next 2 dc's, sl st in next 3 dc's, sk next 2 dc's, 9 dc's in ch-2 space), end with a sl st in the first sl st, NOT the ch-3.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

This hat is designed to match the crochet dress found here. http://www.leisurearts.com/all_skill...BK&startRec=10

My Mom used a larger hook and made it for 12 months. You could also make a smaller hat by using a smaller hook so it would match the original dress' size.

I designed a pair of shorts/panties as well to match the dress and that link is here http://www.crochetville.org/forum/sh...22#post1237822

THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED

Wow. I love it. Thanks for sharing the pattern and I love the way you did the border.
