Blue Shell Shorts

I realize the shells are on the butt ruffles but I thought it would be easier to name the two linked patterns the same.

MATERIALS: One cone of worsted wt cotton in white
One skein of Bernat Softee Baby in pale blue
"D, G and I" hooks
yarn needle
measuring tape

Waist: 19", fits about 6-12 month, maybe more depending on size of baby.

If you want ruffles on the butt, do a few of the rows further down in one loop only-back or front depending on how its turned. I used four ruffles but I think three spaced one row apart would have been better.

Using "I" and white, ch 59. Leave a long tail for sewing a small beginning gap later. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across. (58 sc)

R1: Ch-3, turn, dc across, sl st in the top of ch-3. RS

R2: Ch-3, turn, dc around, join.

R3-10: Repeat R2

First Leg

R11: Ch 10; sk the ch-3 join and next 28 dc's; sl st in the next dc; ch-3,
dc in each dc and ch around; sl st in the top of the starting ch-3.

R12: Ch-2, turn, hdc around, join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Second Leg

R1: Sl st in any dc on the other side; ch 3; dc in each dc and the FREE LOOP [the bottom of your dc's]of the ch-10; join. RS

R2: Ch-2, turn, hdc around, join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Leg Trim

With "D" and blue, on the right side, sl st in any hdc, [ch1, sc, ch-3, sl st in same st], (sc, ch-3, sl st) in each hdc around, join to first sc. Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat for second leg.

Waist Trim

With "G" and blue, on the right side, sl st in any sc at waist, ch-1, sc in same st; sc around, join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ties

With "G" and blue; ch 70, sl st around post of center dc at back of shorts [just approximate, it doesn't have to be exact], ch 70; fasten off and weave in ends. Weave each chain to the front and tie in a bow.

If you don't want to fasten it to the shorts then just chain 140 and weave through first dc row.

Ruffles

Starting with the row closest to the legs that you only used one loop for, find the dc that is closest to the middle of the back, not counting the same middle loop-using "G" and the blue, sl st in the 7th free loop to the RIGHT of the middle.

R1: Ch-1, sc in next 15 loops, including the first one!

R2: Ch-3, turn, dc, ch-2, 2 dc's in same sc (sk next, shell in next) to the end. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Skip one row and ruffle in the next, 2 more times.

The dress was made for a 12 month old using a bigger hook, if you want the shorts to match the original size you will need a smaller hook.

This hat http://www.crochetville.org/forum/sh...83#post1237683 was also made to match the dress. The same instructions apply for making the hat match the original dress size.

Oh my those are so cute I love them.

Hehe! I used to have a pair of bloomers just like that when I was a wee one. They weren't crocheted *gasp!* but actually a pair of tights that my mum cut the legs off of on a hot summer day durning a laundry crisis. I loved to wear those lil gems in the summertime under a gathered skirt for a little extra poof on the backside.

Thanks for reminding me of simpler times!
