Realistic Bunny Pattern

Realistic Bunny Pattern

by Michelle Bogart

Sm amt white chunky yarn (tail)
One skein yellow sport weight yarn (I used Bernat Softee Baby)
One skein green sport weight yarn
"B" hook
"F" hook just for tail
yarn needle
small amt pink embroidery floss (for nose and mouth)
small amt black em. floss (for eyes)
small amt ribbon (optional)

Gauge is not important and simply dictates bunny size.

Do not join unless you are told to.

I wouldn't use a bigger hook than "G" or your stuffing will show.

If you can't do a magic ring then just ch 2 and sc correct amt in the 2nd ch from the hook.

BODY (don't stuff until you are ready for head)

Make a magic ring with yellow

R1: 6 scs in ring, join, ch 1. (this is the last time you join until the end)
R2: 2 scs in each sc around. (12)
R3: sc in one, 2 sc's in the next around. (18)
R4: sc in the next two, 2 sc's in the next around. (24)
R5: sc in the next three, 2 sc's in the next around. (30)
R6: sc in the next four, 2 sc's in the next around. (36)
R7: sc in the next five, 2 sc's in the next around. (42)
R8: sc in the next six, 2 sc's in the next around. (48)
R9: sc in the next seven, 2 sc's in the next around (54)
R10: sc in the next eight, 2 sc's in the next around (60)

R11-25: work even in sc.

R26: sc in the next 8, dec in the next around. (54)
R27: sc in the next 7, dec in the next around. (48)
R28: sc in the next 6, dec in the next around. (42)

R29-31: work even in sc.

R32: sc in the next 5, dec in the next around. (36)

R33-36: work even in sc.

R37: sc in the next 4, dec in the next around. (30)

R38: work even in sc.

R39: sc in the next 3, dec in the next around. (24)
R40: work even in sc, fasten off and weave in ends.

BACK LEG-make 2 (stuff as you go)
Make a magic ring with yellow

R1: 6 scs in ring, join, ch 1.
R2: 2 scs in each sc around. (12)
R3: sc in one, 2 scs around. (18)
R4: sc in next two, 2 sc's around. (24)

R5-10: work even in sc.

R11: sc in the next 4, dec in the next around. (20)

Now is a good time to make the "claws". With green and your yarn needle, overcast three claws and secure the end. Tuck inside foot so when you stuff you will hide the end.

R12-14: work even in sc.

R15: sc in the next 3, dec in the next around. (16)

R16-20: work even in sc.

R21: Dec around. (8)
R22: work even in sc; fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing; weave tail through R22, cinch closed, secure-leaving long tail to sew to body.

Sew to back of body using photos for placement help. Hide secured ends inside body.

TAIL (don't stuff)
With white chunky yarn and "F" hook make a magic ring.

R1: 5 sc's in ring, join, ch 1.
R2: 2 sc's in each sc around. (10)
R3: sc in one, 2 sc's around. (15)

R4-6: work even in sc.

R7: sc in one, dec around. (10)

Chain one, flatten the tail and sl st closed through both loops (5 sl stitches). Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew tail on back of bunny just underneath, use photos to help with placement. Secure firmly and hide any ends inside body.

FRONT LEG (make 2-stuff as you go)
With yellow make a magic ring.

R1: 6 sc's in ring, join, ch 1.
R2: 2 sc's in each sc around. (12)
R3: sc in one, 2 sc's around. (18)
R4: (sc in the next 8, 2 sc's in the next) twice. (20)

R5-16: work even in sc.

Repeat steps of back legs for front claws

R17: (sc in the next 8, dec) twice. (18)
R18: sc in one, dec around. (12)
R19: Dec around, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. (6)

Weave end through R19, cinch closed, secure-leaving long tail for sewing to body.

Sew to front of body using photos for placement help. Hide secured ends inside body.

HEAD (don't stuff until after you have made features-if you need stuffing for shaping help then stuff VERY lightly)
With yellow make a magic ring.

R1: 6 sc's in ring, join, ch 1.
R2: 2 sc's in each sc around. (12)
R3: sc in one, 2 sc's around. (18)
R4: sc in two, 2 sc's around. (24)
R5: sc in three, 2 sc's around. (30)

R6-8: work even in sc.

R9: sc in four, 2 sc's around. (36)
R10: sc in five, 2 sc's around. (42)
R11: sc in six, 2 sc's around. (48)

R12-15: work even in sc.

R16: sc in 6, dec around. (42)
R17: sc in 5, dec around. (36)

R18-19: work even in sc.

R20: sc in 4, dec around. (30)
R21: sc in 3, dec around. (24)
R22: work even in sc, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing to head.

Embroider features but do not stuff until the ears are sewn on if you can avoid it.

EARS (make two yellow and 2 green)
Chain one and turn each row

R1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and across. (5)
R2-6: sc in each sc.
R7: dec, sc, dec. (3)

R8-11: sc in each sc.

R12: work 3 sc's together and fasten off.

With yellow, sc one green and one yellow ear together(wrong sides facing) in ends of rows along ear length, leaving R1 open. Fasten off, secure ends and leave a long tail. Sew R1 closed with the tail, fold over the closed row and sew to secure. Use rest of tail to sew ears to head using photos for placement help.

Stuff head firmly and sew to body matching sc's evenly. Sew a bit sideways for quirky look. Use ribbon for a pretty bow around neck if desired. Enjoy!
