Santa’s lil helper ornament or ami

small amount red(or green) , white and black w.w. yarn
small amount red dmc for mouth
2 eyes
fiber fill for stuffing

cluster stitch: 5 dc in same st, remove hook from st, insert hook into first dc made then back into loop that hook was removed from, pull through dc, ch 1 and sl st into next st.

body (starting @ bottom)

with red, ch 2, then 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook or magic ring with 6 sc.
rnd 2: 2 sc in each st, around. (12)
rnd 3: 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next st, around. (18)
rnd 4: 1 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, around. (24)
rnd 5-6: repeat rnd 4. (24)
change to white in last st of rnd 6
rnd 7-11: sc in each st around. (24)
change to red in last st of rnd 11
rnd 12-13: sc in each st around. (24)
rnd 14: sc in next 2 sts, sc dec over next 2 sts, around. (18)
rnd 15: repeat rnd 14. (18)
rnd 16: sc in 1st, sc dec over next 2 sts, around. (12)
rnd 17: repeat rnd 16. (12)
rnd 18: sc in 1st st, sc dec over next 2 sts. (8)
rnd 19: repeat rnd 18. (8)
rnd 20: dec around, finish off leaving a long tail to make loop for hanging if making ornament, or just finish off if not.

hat trim

attach white anywhere on rnd 6 with a slip st. then cluster st, sl st, around. (12) clusters, (12) sl sts
finish off

Belt

with black, sl st to back middle of ornament of rnd 11, ch 14, sl st to front middle of rnd 11, ch 13 (or however many it takes you to reach back to where you started in rnd 11), then sl st where original sl st made and finish off.
glue button to front middle of belt.

attach eyes
make mouth with red thread.
