This is my first attempt at designing my own item and it is my son's favorite winter hat. I have gotten many compliments on it because of the snug-looking fit and I hope you like it too.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my ideas.

less than 1 skein ww acrylic
I hook for a child size
J hook for teen or adult size (unless you are making it for someone with thick hair like mine, then use a K hook)

Rnd1: ch5, join with slst to form a ring

Rnd2: ch3, 14 dc in ring, join to beg ch

Rnd3: ch3, in BLO dc in same st, 2 dc in next st and each st around, join to beg ch

Rnd4: ch3, in BLO dc in same st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join to beg st

Rnd5: ch3, in BLO dc in same st, *dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, join to beg ch

Rnd6: ch3, in BLO dc in each st around, join to beg ch

Rnd7: ch1, *fpdc around next dc, sc in next dc, repeat from * around, join in beg ch

Rnd8-22: ch1, *fpdc in next fpdc, sc in next dc, repeat from * around, join in beg ch. (add rounds here as needed for adult size)

Rnd23: ch2, hdc around, finish off.

This was tested by just one other crocheter so any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Thank you all for the encouraging replies.
Wanda, I used Bernat acrylic but I forget the color name. I think it is part of the reason my son likes it so much...it is both snug and soft. (icon added at the request of above mentioned son).

Thanks for the infor on the yarn used...I love the Bernat Berella 4 for my afghans...I love the color of your yarn...I must tell you, I couldn't wait and made a hat last night with Vanna's worsted and a K hook. It is sooooo cute! I have so much trouble with FPDC stitches looking good,,,but it looks fabulous. As soon as I finish this post, I am going to try another with a variegated top and solid for the FPDC rows. Thanks so much for sharing this pattern
